Apple’s total annual research and development expenses increased by 20% in 2022 compared to 2021. Its R&D expenses remained higher for each quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarters of the prior year. In the third and fourth quarters of 2022, the company spent $6.8 billion on research and development compared to $5.7 billion and $5.8 billion in the third and fourth quarters of 2021 respectively.
