In 2021, HP spent $1.9 billion on research and development compared to $1.5 billion in 2020.

HP’s R&D expenses remained flat in 2020 compared to the previous year. The company spent $1.5 billion on research and development in 2019 and 2020.

The research and development expenses of Hewlett Packard grew to $1.4 Billion  in 2018 from $1.2 Billion in 2017.

HP and HPE became two separate divisions in 2015.

HP is a leading global provider of personal computing and other access devices, imaging and printing, products, and related technologies, solutions and services. The company sells to individual customers as well as small and medium sized businesses and large enterprises. The customers of HP are also from the government and the health and education sector. It was incorporated in 1947. The separation of HP and HPE was completed in 2015. Hewlett Packard and Hewlett Packard Enterprises became two separate companies after that. HPE includes HP’s former enterprise technology infrastructure, software, services and financing businesses. 

HP is  a leading provider of PC and other access devices, imaging and printing products, and related technologies, solutions and services. The brand has a large customer base globally. It sells to individual customers, SMEs, large enterprises, government customers as well as health and education sectors. Founded in 1939 by William R Hewlett and David Packard, HP was incorporated in 1947. In 2015, HP was divided into HP and HPE or Hewlett Packard Enterprises.

After the separation Hewlett Packard company changed its name to HP Inc. The brand has achieved some serious growth since it separated from HPE. Having overtaken Lenovo, HP has become the biggest PC maker of the world. In 2016, the brand acquired the printing business by Samsung which has also helped it gain momentum. However, given the decline experienced by the PC and printing businesses in the recent years, HP has acquired some impressive strength. 

The computing industry is an intensely competitive industry and due to the intense competition, the spending on research and development is also higher. HP has continued to spend 1.2 Billion dollars over the previous three years on research and development.
