Boeing has divided its business into four segments including three major and one minor segment. Its three leading operating segments include commercial airplanes, defense and global services. The fourth operating segment is called Boeing Capital. The largest operating segment of Boeing is commercial airplanes which accounted for $25,867 million in net sales in 2022 compared to $19,493 million in the prior year. Boeing’s second largest business segment is defense, space and security which accounted for $23,162 million in net sales in 2022 compared to $26,540 million in 2021. The aircraft maker also generated $17,611 million in net sales from the global services segment in 2022 compared to $16,328 million in the prior year.

Boeing is one of the world’s leading aerospace firms. Its business is divided into four operating segments that include :

  • Commercial Airplanes (BCA);
  • Defense, Space & Security ( BDS );
  • Global Services ( BGS );
  • Boeing Capital ( BCC ).

2021: While commercial airplanes have historically been the main source of revenues for Boeing, the company has experienced a decline in its net sales from commerical airplanes over the last three years. Its revenues from defense, space and security segment has remained stable in comparison.

In 2021, the company generated $19.5 billion from the sales of commercial airplanes and $26.54 billion from the defense, space and security segment. Its net revenues from the global services segment remained $16.33 billion in 2021 compared to $15.54 billion in the previous year. Boeing’s total net revenue in 2021 remained $62.3 billion compared to $58.16 billion in 2020.

2020: Boeing experienced a significant decline in its total net sales in 2020 compared to the prior year. The company generated total $58,158 million compared to $76,559 million in the previous year. Its revenue from the sales of commercial airplanes nearly halved in 2020 compared to the prior year. In 2019, the company had generated $32.25 billion from the sales of commercial airplanes. However, in 2020, its sales of commercial airplanes declined to $16.16 billion. Boeing’s sales in the defense, space and security segment increased slightly but declined in the global services segment. Boeing generated $26,257 million from the defense, space and security segment in 2020 compared to $26.095 million from the same in the previous year. Its revenue from the global services segment in 2020 was only $15,543 million compared to $18,468 million from the same in 2019.

2018: Commercial airplanes are the leading source of revenue for Boeing accounting for almost 57% of its revenue in 2018. Boeing’s revenue from the commercial airplanes segment increased to $57,499 million in 2018 from $54,612 million in 2017. Total revenue of Boeing in 2018 was $101.13 Billion in 2018.
