Research and Development Expenses of Yamaha Motor

Yamaha places heavy focus on research and development for bringing new products to the market and to introduce new technologies that  bring financial growth. In 2017, it spent 99.2 Billion Yen or 900 million US dollars (approx) on Research and development. This was 4.3 billion Yen higher than the previous year when the brand spent 94.9 Billion Yen or 870 Million dollars (approx.) on R&D. In 1974, Yamaha Motor began research and development of Industrial robots to streamline production and improve manufacturing precision. In 1976, it introduced SCARA robots and in 1981, it entered the industrial robot business.  In the meantime, it has also been conducting research and development of engine related technologies. The following table shows the amount that Yamaha has been spending on research and development.
